In Whom Are You Boasting?

Read: 1 Corinthians 1:31

Boasting is a common trait found in worldly people. People boast about their achievements, skill, power, wealth, physical appearances, family heritage, etc. All these are worldly boasting. God has spoken through prophet Jeremiah, “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight, says the Lord” (Jer. 9:23-24).

Obey Without Delay

Read: Mark 1:14-20

Procrastination is a thief of time and the grave of opportunity. In our passage for today, the fishermen were confronted with a command from the Saviour: “Follow Me.” It was not a convenient command, because they had nets to mend, fish to catch, business to tend and families to care for. Yet there was no time to procrastinate. This was a clear statement of the Master’s will for them.

Unconditional Acceptance

Read: Hosea 2:23

Lack of self-esteem is one emotional problem affecting many in the society. People are on a desperate search for self-significance. Somehow, they want to be someone accepted by all. Some are even driven to the point of suicide because they felt unloved and unaccepted by those around them. The hard truth is that the love and acceptance by the world is neither lasting nor fulfilling.
