Read: Exodus 8:1-32
The 21st century witnessed more catastrophic events like floods, hurricanes, landslides, earthquakes, wars, etc. than other eras. As more sin crept, God’s judgement came upon the nations. The countries that were once known for following God are facing judgement for departing from God’s commandments and laws. As a result, they face the consequences. “Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth” (Amos 9:8). God’s finger is upon everything that happens on earth. “He makes nations great, and destroys them; He enlarges nations, and guides them” (Job 12:23; 34:29).
When the different plagues affected Egypt, the Egyptian magicians realised that it was the finger of God that caused the plagues (Exod. 8:19). They realised that their magic could not produce these plagues. When sin increased on the earth, God regretted His decision of creating mankind. The flood upon the world in the days of Noah was caused by God (Gen. 6:17). The famine in the days of Joseph was sent by God (Gen. 41:25). We see the famine in the days of Elijah (1 Kings 18:1) and Elisha being sent by God (2 Kings 8:1). The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was brought about by God (Gen. 19).
God wants His creation to be holy before Him. He wants to purge each and every one of us, such that we bear the image of His Son Jesus (Rom. 8:29). He wants His remnant to be with Him in eternity. God has promised, “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:13-14). Are we willing to be obedient to His ways so that we please Him and that He may bless us?
