Read: Revelation 2:1-7
Love is more than a feeling of excitement in the presence of another. Rather, love is a commitment that grows deeper with the years. In the case of the Ephesian church, the excitement of first love for God had faded into meaningless ritual, activity without enthusiasm, works without any warmth. Jesus says, “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place – unless you repent” (Rev. 2:4-5).
