The United States, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates entered into an agreement on 13th August, 2020, normalising relations between Israel and the UAE. The agreement is called The Abraham Accords. This name was chosen pointing to the fact that the Arab and Jewish peoples have descended from a common ancestor, Abraham. On 12th September, 2020, Israel and Bahrain agreed for normalisation of relations between them.
This created mixed responses from the Arab countries. Oman supported the agreement. Kuwait was rather silent. Saudi Arabia held that unless Israel signed an internationally-recognized peace agreement with the Palestinians, it would not normalise relations with Israel. After so many years of wars and unrest, why peace now? Some have even said that The Abraham Accords cannot be properly called a ‘peace treaty’ since the nations involved were not at war with one another. Nevertheless, one should bear in mind that these nations have had extreme animosity towards modern Israel over its existence.
The fact that these nations agreed for a treaty with Israel indicates that there is something common with Israel at this point, the most important factor being Iran. Iran has an ambitious nuclear weapons programme, and is trying to develop missiles that can take their nuclear warheads to where it wants to. It has already developed friendly ties with Russia and China. And since it does not regard the good interests of its neighbouring countries, Israel makes for a good friend in such times. The nations that are trying to make peace with Israel believe that they need the Jewish nation so that they can also exist in such a volatile region.
Some years ago, it seemed impossible for peace relations between Israel and such nations. But now, things are changing. The Bible’s prophecies have to be fulfilled. Bible prophecy teaches that there will be a peace treaty between Israel, its neighbouring countries, and the Antichrist, which will be in the beginning of the seven years of Tribulation coming upon the world. But the peace the Antichrist brings will be short-lived. It is already seen in the present treaty and certain countries’ response to it, since there is an inherent hostility towards the Jews taught by the Quran.
The Ezekiel 38 grouping of nations has started to form in the world politics. How will the Antichrist be able to convince Iran to agree on a peace treaty with Israel? Probably because of Russia’s influence, since Russia needs the Antichrist’s help for continuing in world trade, which will be controlled by the Antichrist during that time. Ezekiel 38 says that eventually a group comprising of Russia, Iran, Turkey, and some north-African countries will break the treaty with the Antichrist and prepare to attack Israel.
The world stage is moving fast to the place described by the Bible as that of the last days. What the prophets of God had said centuries before is now being fulfilled before our eyes. In such turbulent times, it is always safe to trust in God and His Word.
