Have you tried sharing the gospel with someone who has not known Jesus? Some may accept Him whereas many may reject Him. The god of this world Satan has blinded their eyes from knowing Jesus. God gave His only Son Jesus to this world that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). God wants everyone to receive eternal life through His Son Jesus.
The gospel is hidden from those who are lost. They may be highly educated but they lack the knowledge and understanding of Jesus. Even if you try, they have rejected the gospel of Christ. The Jews rejected the Messiah, though He lived amongst them. Isa. 6:9-10 says, “Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive. Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and return and be healed.”
When you share the gospel with someone it is like the parable of the sower and the seed. This parable shows the situation when a farmer sows his seeds. Some seeds fell on the wayside to be eaten by birds, some seeds fell on stony places that the roots didn’t have depth while growing, some fell among thorns that they were crushed while growing up and some fell on good soil to grow and give a good produce. Jesus interpreted this parable as “when anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty” (Matt. 13:19-23).
When a person turns to the Lord, his veil is taken away (2 Cor. 3:16). Paul advised the Christians in Ephesus that formerly they were in darkness, but now they are light in the Lord, and so they should walk as children of light (Eph. 5:8). We are commissioned to share the gospel to others, whether they accept it or not. We should lovingly fulfill the responsibility that God has given us.
