Do you seek the counsel of God before you do anything? However complicated or difficult the situation may be, do you enquire and seek His guidance? Asa, the king of Judah, was a good king who followed God’s commandments. But in his old age, his heart drifted away from God. He sought the counsel of others, before asking God. Though Asa’s disease was severe, he did not seek the help from God (2 Chron. 16:12). After Asa’s death, his son Jehoshaphat reigned in Judah. He sought God’s counsel first before he went to war with the King of Syria (1 Kings 22:5). King David sought God’s counsel early, even before meeting with his counsellors (Ps. 63:1). He knew that it was better to trust in God than put confidence in man or princes (Ps. 118:8-9).

Do not seek the counsel of ungodly men (Ps. 1:1). God confuses the signs given by false prophets, makes fools of diviners and overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense (Isa. 44:25). King Saul died because he sought the counsel of a medium instead of asking God and sinned against Him (1 Chron. 10:13-14).  Some people rely on following prophets or gurus who are just after their money. Commit your ways to the Lord, and all your plans will be established (Prov. 16:3).

If you lean on your own understanding, you will fail. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Always acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight (Prov. 3:5-6). You can trust and strongly believe that God is able to deliver you from the different situations you face. Begin your day by seeking God’s counsel in prayer for various decisions regarding family, marriage, profession, health, etc. He will surely direct you with the right counsel.
