Read: 1 Kings 20:1-30
Correct beliefs guard and save life, whereas wrong beliefs can lead to death and destruction. Some Christians don’t seek medical help or care when they ought to. They are taught that seeking medical help is sinful since it shows a lack of faith in God. As a result, many have died, which otherwise could have been prevented.
In our passage for today, we see that the Syrian king believed that he could defeat the Israelites if he fought them in the valley. It was based on a mistaken belief that “The Lord is God of the hills, but He is not God of the valleys” (v. 28). As a result, 100,000 Syrian soldiers were killed in that battle.
We need to know God’s Word precisely so that wrong beliefs and teachings will not deceive us. Jesus Himself said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32). His truth is found in the Bible alone, which can guide us on the right path in life, as Ps. 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Let us be all the more earnest in studying His Word and applying it.
