Read: Proverbs 16
Pride is an attitude that makes one feel better than the other. The Bible tells us that Satan’s pride caused him to be thrown out of heaven. Satan (Lucifer) was one of the leading angels in heaven prior to being cast out from heaven by God due to his pride (Isa. 14:12-14). Ezek. 28:14 says that Satan was an anointed cherub on the holy mountain of God and walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. He would have worshiped God as other angels did (Ezek. 28:13). His fall led to him being rejected from his position and would be tormented in the Lake of fire and brimstone in eternity (Rev. 20:10). Satan now serves as the father of lies, disguising himself as an angel of light, seeking those he can devour (John 8:44; 2 Cor. 11:14, 1 Pet. 5:8).
King Herod’s pride caused him his life. King Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to the people. And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died (Acts 12:21-23).
The Bible says that “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Prov. 16:18). “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). Only if you humble yourself before the Lord He will lift you up (James 4:10). Do not take pride in your achievements. Whatever you have is God’s gift. He can take it away whenever He pleases. Humbly acknowledge that God alone is the giver of everything including wealth, wisdom, education, or fame. He will bless you and be gracious to you if you are humble before Him.
