Read: Isaiah 26:3-4
Perfect peace is translated from the Hebrew shalom, which means “fulfilment, abundance, well-being, security.” The phrase whose mind is stayed on You comes from two Hebrew words: the first meaning “will, imagination”; the second, “dependent, supported, firm.” When our wills and imaginations are dependent on God, when we choose to turn our thoughts to Him, we learn the simple truth that God is enough.
Many a time, we tend to depend on ourselves, our talents, our strength, our intelligence, and whatever we have at our disposal. When we depend on ourselves, we will always lack the perfect peace as described in the Bible. It can only be realised when we put our trust and dependence on God alone. When we do that, we find out, as Isaiah wrote, that “in the Lord …is everlasting strength” (Isa. 26:4), and in God’s strength we discover fulfilment and security.
