Read: Colossians 1:19-29
In the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve sinned, peace was lost. As soon as they ate the forbidden fruit and realised their nakedness, they started blaming each other (Gen. 3:12-13) and brought conflict into God’s peaceful planet. Sadly, all of their descendants, including us, have followed their bad example. We tend to blame others for our own bad choices and become angry when no one will accept the guilt. Blaming others for our unhappiness breaks apart families, churches, societies, and nations. We are unable to make peace because we are preoccupied with blaming someone.
The Bible tells the story of how God Himself set the stage to introduce the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6). Jesus, God’s only begotten Son, came to break the cycle of sin, blame, and bondage by making peace for us with God “through the blood of His cross” (Col. 1:20). Instead of blaming us for all the trouble we cause, He accepted the blame for all of us. Now He is recruiting followers who, having received His forgiveness, want others to receive it as well.
When we accept forgiveness from God, we will have a desire to share it with others. And when we live in peace with God, we are eager to make peace with others also. We will hesitate to blame others. Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” (Matt. 5:9). We can strive all the more both to give and receive the gift of peace in Christ in our daily walk.
