Read: Luke 15:1-32

Have you lost any item and later found it? If it were a precious thing that you lost, the greater would be your joy when you found it, isn’t it? Jesus’ main purpose was to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). We were lost in our sins, but Jesus sought to find us by paying the price by dying on the cross for us. Jesus cares for us like a shepherd would care for his sheep. As the Bible says, when a shepherd lost one among the 100 sheep, he didn’t ignore the lost one. He went out in search of that lost sheep. And when he found the lost sheep, he had a celebration (Luke 15:1-32). This is how God searches out the sinner. God cares for each and every one of us. Jesus said, “There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:10).

Any person who does not know Jesus is lost. Paul the apostle described the former condition of the believers in the church at Ephesus as “that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world” (Eph. 2:12). The god of this world (the devil) has blinded the hearts of the unbelievers that they would not see the light of the gospel to shine on them (2 Cor. 4:4).

Jesus said, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:44). Jesus has gone to prepare a place for His sheep in Heaven. Where He is, there we can be also, if we receive Him into our lives. Are we willing to have the burden for the lost and lead them to see the gospel of light? God desires that all should know Him and not be lost in darkness. 2 Pet. 3:9 rightly says, “The Lord is … longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
