Read: Genesis 22:1-13
The heart of Abraham must have been beating fast until he was afraid his son Isaac would hear it as they stood on Mount Moriah. Perspiration would have rolled down his face. He had offered many sacrifices during his lifetime, but this one was different. God was asking him to place his son of promise on the altar and yet retain his confidence in the love and integrity of the Almighty God. When it became clear that Abraham was ready to slay Isaac, an angel stopped him and provided a ram instead. Gen. 22:12 says, “He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”” Abraham had totally surrendered his everything to the Lord, and as a result, his son Isaac was returned to him, as it were from the dead.
When two wolves fight over a territorial boundary, the conflict ends in an unusual way. When one animal realises he can’t win, he indicates surrender by exposing his jugular vein to the teeth of his opponent. For some unexplainable reason, the victor does not kill him. Instead, he allows the conquered to go free.
Similarly, we believers must be willing to give Christ the most precious thing in our lives. Jesus wants more than our spare time and our leftover possessions; He desires and deserves to be Lord over everything in our lives. Only when we are willing to let go of what we love the most can we experience the joy and freedom that come by yielding to the One who wills nothing but our good. Surrender is the secret to life at its best. Let God have your life fully; He can do more with it than you can.
