God’s favour can rest on a person who is obedient to His laws and commands. If you sincerely desire to walk and be pleasing to God, you have to listen to Him. Spend time with God in prayer, abide with Him, have faith in Him that He will work in your life. Noah found favour in God’s sight, because he did all that God commanded him to do (Gen. 6:22). Noah and his family of eight survived the great flood, whereas all the other people perished.

Divine favour rested on the life of Abraham, yet none of his family experienced it. His father, Terah, and all his family that stayed in Haran did not know God’s favour (Gen. 11). Abraham was blessed and favoured because he was obedient to his calling (Gen. 12:1-3). And that favour was seen repeatedly in Abraham’s life. When he went down to Egypt, he had favour with Pharaoh (Gen. 12). When he fought against the forces that captured his nephew Lot (Gen. 14), Abraham was given divine favour and victory. Divine favour rested on his son Isaac, but Isaac’s half-brother Ishmael did not experience the same favour. Isaac was blessed beyond measure during one of the worst famines of his day. Even though he sowed seed during drought, he received a hundredfold return (Gen. 26:12).

There might be times when you feel that God is not with you. Ask God for forgiveness, have a repentant heart, run to Him as a child in distress would run to his father. “For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Ps. 30:5). The favour of God is the vital factor behind the success of human endeavour. David rightly said, “let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands” (Ps. 90:17).
