Read: Galatians 2:20
In our daily walk with the Lord, we are being changed little by little by crucifying our will. It is a slow change – just like a grain of sand in an oyster gradually being changed into a pearl. The gradual change in the inner man is evident: new ability to cast all our care upon God, new joy at the success of others, new hope in a God who is good… God is not destroying our will but actually transforming it so that over a period of time and experiential walk with Him, we can freely will what God wills for us. That is the essence of Christ living in us and helping us live the life that God wants us to live. It is a life lived out for Him.
Jesus Himself said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me” (Luke 9:23). ‘Take up his cross’ means suffering for His Name’s sake. Phil. 1:29 says, “For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake.” It is a daily process, and one has to do it willingly and lovingly so as to be a disciple of Christ. Ask God to help you to do this, and He will strengthen you by His Spirit.
