Read: Romans 12:1-8

All of us have different roles in a church. It might not seem important but God honours every little action done for His Kingdom. It might be praying for your fellow members, or encouraging the lost, caring for widows and orphans, or leading the Sunday school and youth members to know Jesus. Mothers who take their children to church are also honouring God, though it might not seem as a big deal to others. Your attendance in church is an encouragement to the pastor and other believers.  Every little action counts. If you are sharing the gospel through tracts or Christ’s love to others, it will not go unnoticed in God’s sight. Paul the apostle wrote to Timothy as an advice to his fellow believers, “Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life” (1 Tim. 6:18-19).

We do not have to do any action as an eye service to get favour from people, but we ought to do the will of God from the heart (Eph. 6:6). Let our hearts be genuine. Our God in secret would reward us in heaven for the things that we have done in secret to bless others. We are to be doers of God’s Word and not just hearers alone (James 1). The doer of God’s work will be blessed in what he or she does. The midwives Shiphrah and Puah rescued the Hebrew male children by disobeying Pharaoh’s commands. The midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive (Exod. 1:17).  God blessed them and provided them households (Exod. 1:21). Rahab the prostitute provided refuge for two Jewish spies in Jericho. Her action spared her life and her family’s life (Josh. 2). Rahab will not be remembered for her former life as a prostitute, but as one of the great grandmothers of King David, after marrying Salmon (Matt. 1:5).

And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Col. 3:23-24). Faith without works is dead (James 2:26). So be a person of action for God’s kingdom.
