Read: Isaiah 64:8

God moulds us to be what He wants us to be. We are like clay in the hands of our potter. The job of the potter is to soften the clay such that it is mouldable. The clay must be pliable and without impurities for the potter to work on. The clay does not decide the design; it is the potter’s choice. Likewise, it is God who decides what His creation would be like. After the design is made, the clay vessel needs to be treated in heat to preserve its shape. God wants His chosen people to be able to withstand the persecution around them. He will give them the strength to face the trials, so that they can be of better use to others.

The divine potter has the power over the clay. He allows affliction to make us better. Joseph was imprisoned for the fault that he did not commit, yet God used him to bring the Israelites into the land of Egypt during the famine. The disciples were from different professions. As they walked with Jesus, they were able to reflect the attributes of their Master.

The character of the potter is reflected in the design of the vessel. If we walk with God, we will be able to reflect Him. “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). It is up to God to mould, transform, and sanctify us through this earthly journey. We have to submit lovingly to His will in order to be shaped by Him.
