On Whose Side Are You?

Read: Psalm 73

During the Civil War in America, one of the advisors of President Lincoln said that he was grateful that God was on the side of the Union. Lincoln immediately replied, “Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side, my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.” I believe it is a great challenge for us who assume that God is there to support our plans in life, our decisions, our desires, and our perspectives. Lincoln’s reply reminds us that even our best plans may not be on the lines of God’s desires and plans.

True Investment

Read: 2 Peter 1:5-11

Today many people are investing in stock markets and mutual funds for a secure future. Financial advisers and stockbrokers will try to lure you into making that investment which will guarantee you peace of mind and a stable financial future. God wants us to invest in our spiritual future as well. Through the ups and downs of life’s situations we should continually invest in a ‘spiritual account’: our character.

Walking in the Spirit

Read: Galatians 5:16-25

From the time of regeneration of a person, there begins a war within himself – the flesh and the Spirit warring against each other. The flesh would want to dominate and thereby make the believer sin and do acts that would displease God. The Spirit on the other hand would want the believer to walk obediently in the ways of God. The apostle Paul says, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16).
