Sincere in the Heart

Read: 1 Samuel 16:7

Men judge the heart of others by their actions. But God judges the actions by the heart. If the heart is sincere, God will see the faith and bear with the failing. Sincerity makes our duties acceptable, like musk among linen that perfumes it. As Jehu said to Jehonadab in 2 Kin. 10:15, “Is your heart right …? And Jehonadab said, It is. If it is, give me your hand. So he gave him his hand; and he took him up into the chariot.

God’s Opinion Alone Matters

Read: Hebrews 12:1-4

Imagine you are in an unfamiliar city, far from home, friends and family, when suddenly you are tempted to do something wrong. Is your first thought, “What would others think?” Or is it, “What would God think?” God’s opinion is the one that really matters, and it is never right to do wrong. But have you ever considered why you do what you do when faced with temptation?

From Outer Space?

Read: Job 38:4-18

Many astronomers speculate about how life originated on Mars and then came to Earth. They say, “Microbes from Mars fell on the very early Earth…, and the offspring of those microbes are still here, and they are us.” Many students of science are looking to outer space for the origins of life on earth, not willing to believe and accept the Bible’s explanation that God placed humanity, animals, and plant life on earth through special creation. How can they assume that supposed microbial life started on a hostile planet? Why is it so difficult to accept that the earth, uniquely created for life to exist, is where God created and placed living creatures?

Standing Alone for the Lord

Read: Matthew 10:30-35

Nabeel Qureshi was a former Muslim who accepted Christ. He had to leave his Islamic faith and culture to stand for the Lord. Although he was the only person in his family to accept Christ, he was able to share his faith to millions worldwide before succumbing to stomach cancer in September, 2017. Nabeel personally testified that he experienced the emotional pain after his parents came to know that he was a Christian. The Bible strengthened him to follow Christ. Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me” (Matt. 16:24).

Only a Rough Outline

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:8-12

In the book The Weight of Glory, C. S. Lewis tells the story of a woman who gave birth to a son while confined as a prisoner in a dungeon. Since the boy had never seen the outside world, his mother tried to describe it by making pencil drawings. Later when he and his mother were released from prison, those pencil sketches were replaced by the actual images of the beautiful world.
