Read: Hebrews 7:11-21

At more than 25 times the speed of sound, a space shuttle re-enters the atmosphere of the Earth. The temperature of the shuttle’s exterior is increased to 1650 degrees Celsius by friction from wind resistance. The skin of the shuttle is shielded by about 34,000 different tiles to prevent melting. When subjected to high-speed friction, these tiles must be almost unbreakable.

In this world of decay and death, nothing is truly indestructible. Yet the Bible tells us of an indestructible life. Comparing the Lord Jesus to the works of the law, Heb. 7:16 says, “[Jesus] has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life.” The Greek word translated “endless” is best translated as “indestructible.” Jesus is our Great High Priest whose priestly duties required His own sacrificial death for our sins. His resurrection guarantees eternal redemption for all who repent and believe in Him.

We may get the sense that our life has been destroyed when we lose our health, our relationships, or our income. However, nothing could be further from the truth for a believer. Through our spiritual union with Christ, we have the promise that we will share in His own indestructible life. In John 14:19 Jesus said, “Because I live, you will live also.” Again, Jesus said, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:28). Jesus assures us, “This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day” (John 6:39). That is the security in Jesus. Know that nothing can shake those who are secure in God’s hands.
