When You Are Disappointed with God

Read: Psalm 22

It is normal for us to go through phases in our life when we may be disappointed with God. It could be because you have listened and obeyed God and yet He didn’t answer your prayer. Maybe it was that promotion you had longed for, or it was a hope that you would be a parent, or have a spouse, or maybe you prayed for your suffering or persecution to go away. God is all-knowing. He knows that you are disappointed.

David had to wait for God’s timing. At times he felt that God was not listening to his prayers. He was disappointed. David wrote in Psalm 22:1-2, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My groaning?O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not hear; and in the night season, and am not silent.” You might feel that God is not hearing when you cry out to Him. You then tend to be bitter towards God. Job had so much misery in his life that he preferred death over life (Job 3:20-21).

The only solution is to continually pray to God. “Pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thess. 5:17-18). Replace your disappointments with thanksgivings. Definitely God will not disappoint you. Our thoughts are not His thoughts and our ways are not His ways (Isa. 55:8). He has a perfect plan and secure future charted out for His children (Rom. 8:28; Jer. 29:11). He wants you to wait continually on Him.
