Read: 2 Chronicles 16:7-14

In our passage, we see that King Asa led his people away from false gods and his kingdom prospered (2 Chron. 15:1-19). Later in his reign, he depended on himself instead of God (2 Chron. 16:2-7) and the remainder of his life was characterised by war and sickness (2 Chron. 16:12). When the prophet Hanani warned Asa, he said that God will “show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chron. 16:9). Our hearts may need occasional strengthening so that we will press on to persevere amidst the struggle.

In the Bible, we see that Job suffered so much even though he was “a blameless and upright man” (Job 1:8). In order for God’s purposes to be fulfilled, Joseph was falsely accused of molestation and spent time in prison (Gen. 39:19-41:1). The prophet Jeremiah was beaten and put in stocks for telling the truth to a rebellious people (Jer. 26:15).

God’s ways are not our ways. Our perspective is very small, but God has the correct and full perspective regarding our life. Making the right decision may come at a cost. But in God’s perfect will, His blessings and help will always be on time. Let us learn from the wise choices as well as mistakes of people in the Bible, and let us wisely serve our Lord. God will always help those who are faithful to Him and depend on Him.
