Read: Psalm 119:89-96

During World War II, much of Poland was bombed. Most of the buildings were destroyed. However, one building still stood even though it was damaged. It was the headquarters of the British and Foreign Bible Society. On one of its walls was written, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matt. 24:35).

The words of Jesus give us courage and strength in the midst of trying situations. Even when our surroundings appear to be shattered, we can still find confidence in God’s sovereignty, promises, and truthfulness. The psalmist wrote, “Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven” (Ps. 119:89). God is always faithful and He can be always relied upon. In this psalm, the law of the Lord is declared as being perfect and bringing life. Rather than seeing the law as restricting, the law is seen as something vital to a full and fruitful life.

As we face setbacks in life, we can define them either in terms of despair or of hope. Since God is always faithful and that He will not abandon us, we can confidently choose hope. His eternal Word assures us of His unfailing love. We can always trust His unchanging Word.
