Read: Jeremiah 23:29

How important is the Word of God in your lives? Does it edify, nourish, convict, and uplift you in your daily life? King David obeyed God’s commandments and testimonies. He considered God’s Word as a lamp unto his feet and a light to his path (Ps. 119:105). God’s Word gave him the wisdom to lead his country. How much do you revere God’s Word? Do we read it passively just to finish our chore or really imbibe and absorb everything that God wants us to hear? The Word of God is like fire and like a hammer that breaks the rocks into pieces (Jer. 23:29).

King Josiah turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might according to the law of Moses (2 Kings 23:25). He obeyed God’s commandments by removing the wizards, diviners, images, idols, and all abominations that were present in the land of Judah and Jerusalem, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord (2 Kings 23:24). Josiah revered God’s Word and put it into practice.

When the Israelites returned from captivity after 70 years, the law of Moses was read to the congregation by Ezra, the priest. As he read from the Word, both men and women were attentive to the book of the law from morning till midday. They lifted up their hands, bowed their heads and worshipped the Lord with faces to the ground (Neh. 8:6).

We have to revere God’s Word as:

  1. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16).
  2. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12).

Let us regard God’s Word to be precious and be willing to obey God’s commandments and statutes.
