Read: John 15:12-13

Sacrificial love means investing our time, money, talents, gifts and service in our love for others. Gone are the days we used to see real sacrificial love. Mothers who give up their profession to take care of their little ones or aging parents or a husband who works many jobs so that his wife can stay at home to take care of the children, are just few examples of sacrificial love. Have you ever considered taking a bullet and dying for someone sacrificially? Jesus died for all the sins of humanity. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). Jesus paid the price for our sins that we committed in the past and are yet to commit by dying for us sacrificially on the cross of Calvary, and He bore our sin and shame.

God loved us so much even before we were formed in our mother’s womb. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8).

The sacrificial love we show to others is the love of Jesus flowing through us as we abide in Him. When we abide in Him we get to know Christ intimately. God has commanded us to love our neighbour as ourselves. Jesus loves each of us just as we are. Do we love all people the same way? Or do we hesitate to show love to the person who leads a lifestyle we don’t agree with, or whom we consider unlovable? If we are genuinely Jesus’ disciples, we will have love for one another (John 13:35).
