Read: Deuteronomy 28:12
The principle of first-fruits is very powerful in that the first belongs to God. Any first thing given is never lost, and any first thing not given is always lost. We don’t lose what we give to God because God redeems it for us. But whatever we withhold from God, we will lose. Jesus said, “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it” (Matt. 16:25).
Coming to church on the first day of the week, giving the tithe that we ought to give, giving our talents for God’s glory, are all ways of giving God our first. When we give our first and best to the Lord, we acknowledge that He is the source of all what we have and that we don’t withhold anything from Him because we love Him. 2 Cor. 9:7 says, “Let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
