Read: 1 Corinthians 3:11

The construction of a building starts with the laying of the foundation stone. The foundation stone gives the strength and point of reference for the remainder of the building. The church is called the “house of God” which clearly means that the foundation is Jesus Christ (1 Tim. 3:15). Philosophy, vain deceit, traditions, rudiments of this world can create a discord and even split in churches, if they are not rooted and built on Christ (Col. 2:7-8). In our walk as a Christian, where is your foundation laid? Are you building your faith on Jesus? He is the foundation of our belief. Many people attempt to lay other foundations for their lives. They depend on earthly riches, human wisdom, or influence, or some other power. People who started building the tower of Babel had a sense of pride that they could construct a tower that reached the heavens using brick for stone and asphalt for mortar. God was not their foundation. God confused their language so that they were scattered abroad (Gen. 11:1-9).

Jesus explained that anyone who listened to God and obeyed Him was like a wise man who built his house upon the rock. Rain and floods did not disturb the foundation of the house as it was built on the rock. In the spiritual sense, the Rock is Jesus Christ. He who hears yet does not obey God or His commandments is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. Rain and flood destroyed his house as his foundations were not firm (Matt. 7:24-27).

If Jesus is not your firm foundation, you may tumble down under difficult circumstances. Jesus Christ is the Rock upon which we must build our foundation. He is the tried stone, the precious cornerstone and sure foundation (Isa. 28:16). Like David, are you able to say that “God only is my rock and my salvation, He is my defence, I shall not be moved” (Ps. 62:6)?
