Even in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night of betrayal, Christ had plenty of time and opportunity to flee. But He would not flee. Instead, He knelt to pray in that garden under the leaves of the olive trees. And in His prayer that night, Jesus gave us, for all time, the perfect pattern for the prayer of relinquishment: “Not what I want, but what You want.” Jesus deliberately set Himself to make His will and God’s will the same.
When you face decision-making choices in life, whose will do you seek? Do you keep your desires and will over above everything else? Do you let God make the decisions? Do you seek what the Lord wills for you at that moment? We should realise that God’s will is the best for us in any circumstance. It may be bitter at that specific moment, but the will of God alone will accomplish God’s best for your life. Even if we have the opportunity to take matters into our hands, it is always wise to surrender ourselves into the caring arms of our heavenly Father, and say, “Let Your will be done.”
