Read: Joshua 2:1-13

Every now and then we see big businessmen fall from high positions. We see professionals and even ministers of God fall from their respective offices. They believed that their strength is in their talents, smartness, and their huge wealth.

As the people of Israel were going to the Promised Land they became stronger militarily. The neighbouring kingdoms feared their invasion. But one thing to note is that their strength was not in their large army or weapons or strategies. Their strength was the fear that God had put in the hearts of their enemies. Their enemies knew that the Israelites worshipped a God who is all-powerful. In Deut. 11:25, we read, “No man shall be able to stand against you; the Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you.” In our passage for today, we see Rahab confessing about this fear in the hearts of the people of Jericho to the spies sent by Joshua. Even though Jericho was well protected by its walls and military, the people of Jericho were afraid when they heard what the Lord had done for the Israelites.

Where have you placed your strength? Is your strength in your wealth, your status, your profession, education, your talents or your physical strength? Be careful not to put our strength in these things. Our strength should be in our Lord and His strength. This confidence comes out of knowing Him personally, fearing Him and keeping His commandments.
