Our Source of Strength

Read: 1 Samuel 30:1-19

The Lord always provides strength for those who trust and obey Him. He never fails. If we look back over our lives, there would be instances where He gave us what we needed to meet a trial or challenge. There was a woman who was extremely distressed because she had been told that one of her legs would have to be amputated. A pastor read a Bible passage to her, reminded her of the Lord’s love, and assured her of His power. She drew strength from the Lord. She became calm and went into surgery unafraid. She returned home a short time later and was a sweeter, better, more Christ-like person than ever before.

When David and his soldiers returned home after a military mission, they found that the Amalekites had burned their houses and taken their families captive. The first reaction was grief, but the grief soon turned into anger. David’s men began to blame him. They even spoke of stoning him. But David “strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (1 Sam. 30:6). This undoubtedly means that he received strength by turning to God in prayer, reflecting on His mercies in the past and His promises for the future.

The next time when you face an impossible situation, strengthen yourself in the Lord. Remind yourself of His mercies. Remember His promises. Look to Him in prayer. God will be your source of strength. When adversity is most ready to strike us, God is most ready to strengthen us if we look to Him.
