Seeing God’s Glory

Read: Exodus 33:18-20

We can see the glory of God every day. The heavens declare the glory of God (Ps. 19:1). His creation clearly reflects His glory. The Bible says, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory” (Isa. 6:3). The God of this world (the devil) has blinded the minds of unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the knowledge of the glory of Christ in the gospel (2 Cor. 4:4-6).

God’s glory was revealed in the miracles Jesus did. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, He said, “Did I not say that if you believe, you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:40). The Israelites could see God’s glory every day as they travelled in the wilderness. God’s presence was with them in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night (Exod. 13:21). During the dedication of the tabernacle in the time of Moses and during the dedication of the Jerusalem temple in the time of King Solomon, God’s glory was seen. His presence filled the area of worship. Whenever Moses met God face to face, Moses’ face shone (Exod. 34:29). Ezekiel saw the return of God’s glory to the temple and he fell to the ground (Ezek. 43:1-5).

Someday we who have been redeemed by Jesus will experience that inspiring sight. God’s glory will shine in the heavenly Jerusalem (Rev. 21:10-11). And we will see our risen and glorified Saviour, the Lord Jesus (1 John 3:2). “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Cor. 3:18). The Lord is in fact inviting His disciples, to have our lives radically transformed here and now, by opening our eyes to see the wonderful journey He is taking us on “from glory to glory.”
