Read: Luke 22:24-27

Many times, we may feel that all of our duties and responsibilities are bogging us down. We may feel that we are a servant doing different chores for different people. It may be attending to our family’s needs, or our extended family, or our jobs, or our neighbours. We may feel that people are exploiting us.

Jesus says in Luke 22:27, “For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.” Jesus did not have to wash His disciples’ feet, yet He did (John 13:5). There were servants to do that job, and yet Jesus did it. He chose to serve them. Today’s society and culture asserts that we should strive to be “somebody.” Everyone wants the best-paying job, the highest position in a company, the top leadership in the church. However, whatever position we are in, we can learn from Jesus to serve.

We may have different roles as parents, children, employees, friends, leaders, or students. The question that we need to ask ourselves daily is: Do we carry out our roles with an attitude of service? Let the attitude of Jesus be in us, and even if we may be tired in our everyday chores, let us follow the footsteps of Jesus and willingly serve others. To be like Jesus, we need to have a servant’s attitude.
