Read: Revelation 3:7

It can be disappointing at times when we fail to get an answer from God. We get weary from waiting. The Bible says that there are many devices in a man’s heart, but the counsel of the Lord will only stand (Prov. 19:21). A godly man waits patiently for God’s direction when certain doors close. It can be in the case of getting a job, or a spouse, or moving to a new place, or starting a business. God says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isa. 55:8-9).

When God closes a door:

  1. It does not necessarily mean that it is a locked door. God would open that door in His appointed time. It requires waiting. Eccl. 3:1 says that there is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under the sun.
  2. Facing rejection from certain situations is God’s way of protecting us from making the wrong choice. Our God is holy and expects us also to be part of decisions that will glorify His name. God wants everything to be done decently and in order (1 Cor. 14:40).
  3. God closes certain doors when we go astray. He tries to get our attention by closing that door. Jonah failed to listen to God’s command of going and preaching to the Ninevites. Instead, Jonah fled to Tarshish on a ship. God sent a storm to get Jonah’s attention (Jonah 1).
  4. Sometimes it is God’s way of saying to move on. It is not easy for us to step out of our comfort zone. But God wants us to move forward. God commanded Abraham to leave his country (land of Ur), his people and father’s household, and go to the Promised Land that He would show Abraham (Gen. 12:1).

When we get weary and tired of waiting, accept that it is part of God’s plans to make us a better individual for His glory. God knows the plans He has for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future (Jer. 29:11).
