Read: Hebrews 5:12-14
Living in this present culture is quite challenging for a believer in Christ. If we desire to live victoriously, then the inspired Word of God should have the central place in our daily life. It is through the Bible that God speaks to us regarding His truth and the world’s lies.
We need to take an honest look at whether we are committed disciples of Christ or worldly believers. Worldly believers may have strong convictions regarding following Christ but often compromise on those principles. A weak, peripheral understanding of the Bible will result in a weak understanding of God and His character, which in turn will result in self-centred lives and vulnerability to the world’s influences. Worldliness is explicitly revealed in continual disregard for the Christian walk and focussing on things that give pleasure or comfort. A casual involvement in the local church also prevents growth in spiritual maturity.
The Word of God is the light to guide us safely through the cultural mines so that we can become committed disciples of Christ (Ps. 119:105). Applying Scripture to our attitudes and actions will result in a growing passion for the Lord and greater obedience to Him. This will eventually result in our spiritual maturity and we having the perspective that God wants us to have. We will be able to discern between good and evil using God’s wisdom. What place does Scripture have in your life, daily walk with the Lord, and in your decision-making?
